Beginning Fall 2025, SRJC Mathematics classes will have several new corequisite courses available for most first-semester math courses. Many students will be required to take one of theses support courses in addition to their math course based on their math placement. Please refer to Assessment Services for information on your placement.
The Mathematics Department wants all students to have the greatest chance for success in their first college-level math class. Please seek advice from an Academic Counselor on which course is right for you and to make an Ed Plan.
General Corequisite Course Overview
When do you need to take a Corequisite?
You are required to take a corequisite course if indicated by your placement. All students who have not passed either Intermediate Algebra or Integrated Math 3 in High School will need to take a corequisite course when one is available. You may also be required to take a corequisite course if your High School GPA was less than 2.7 or in the case of Math 1A, if you have not also passed Precalculus.
When is a corequisite course Recommended?
- If it has been a while since you have taken a math class either in college or high school, the Math Department recommends that you take a corequisite support course.
- If you would like the additional support when you take your first math course at SRJC, support courses are available for all students to take.
- If you have any questions on this, you can contact your Academic Counselor or the Mathematics Department office.
How do corequisite courses work in SRJC Math classes?
- Every math support course is paired with one math course, for example a MATH 9 course would be paired with one MATH 209 course.
- Both courses are taught by the same instructor and everyone enrolled in the math course will also be enrolled in the same support course.
- In addition to the increased math support and in-class practice time, all support courses also include help with developing effective learning skills.
- If you drop one of these courses, you will be required to drop the other.
- All of our support courses are pass/no pass only.
- You can pass the support course even if you do not pass your math course. If this happens, you have the option of to take the math course again without taking the support course.

This class is for those students. They can take Precalculus while relearning the topics or strengthening the skills that they need to succeed in Precalculus. Math 225 will also include study skills and test taking strategies all designed to help students to become the best college math students that they can be.
- Math 225 is a three-unit support course designed to help students learn or re-learn the algebra required to pass Precalculus Algebra.
